Maybe then it'll heat my van up in more than 20 minutes.

Seriously, I'm shivering when I get in even when I start it up and warm it up 10 minutes before I leave. I swear it was blowing cold air while I was driving even when I had the heat all the way up.

I'm about to rip my damn wiper stalk off too because now that I'm using them to wipe melting ice and snow off my windshield, the fact that they don't shut off in the right position always is even more infuriating.

I need a new car before winter really kicks in. Or I'm going to freeze to death or be driven insane.

Yes, Get a Blazer. The Safari will probably kill itself pretty soon anyways.

Get those heated seat cover covers that plug into the 12V power in the meantime. Also have you considered a tahoe to replace the van?

I have, but I feel like the 5.7 would be too thirsty. And I can't get a 2002+ in my budget with less than 200,000 miles.

It. Won't. Die.

Every time I think it's dying, it gets another life. Endless cycle of close to death and a second wind.

I don't think the 5.7 would be worse than your van. The way it sounds, as long as you don't hammer it, you might get better.

I'm pretty sure that filling the gas tank with wiper fluid and flooring it while in park will do it.

This could be true, because I think a Tahoe and my Safari weigh about the same and the Tahoe has 100 more horsepower to move itself around. Less work to keep at speed.

I would be killed. Very slowly and violently. It has to look unintentional.

Pay a snow plow driver to "accidentally" plow it a few miles down the road?

With my non-working temp gauge, I'd be scared I was overheating it.

5.7 isn't bad nor is the 5.3. The only gaz guzzler I've come across is the 454 in the old GMT400 chassis. My landlord has one, and you can see the gas gauge needle move at idle! The 5.7 doesn't have the issues the 4.3 blazer has (head gasket, spider injector, intake, not eating ball joints). We had two 4.3 powered GM trucks when growing up, each one a different story.

I do think a Blazer would be your best bet though.

$20?

How about an "oil leak" after you ran over a rock obstructing the roadway and then you didn't notice until there was no more oil and the van completely fucked itself.

Well, a 1999 Tahoe weighs less than my Safari and has 100 more horsepower to move it around, so something tells me it actually would get better gas mileage.

'99 Tahoe weighs up to 5,280lbs, my Safari weighs 5,950lbs.

5950 sounds like the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating... which is the maximum weight it's rated for when you add up the weight of the vehicle plus cargo. The actual curb weight was around 4600 pounds for the AWD passenger model and around 4300 for the RWD one. And that means you have 1600 pounds of load capacity.

It it isn't that, it's 5,000. Mine's not stock and has heavier seats, wood accents, light boxes, running boards... It has at least 700 lbs of extra weight inside and out.

You probably have a bad thermostat. That or you're low on coolant.
